one of the many comps (for a letterhead & i.d. system) i’ve done for a financial client in l.a. i’m trying to give an “ansel adams” feel to a often cold or stuffy category. was interesting b/c this lil’ gig reminds me a bit of (old client) bank of america & the “grow” tag-line i wrote for them…

they should have stuck with it. grow was a great word for a bank to own. grow families, finances, education, business, etc.

grow was a good mantra inside the bank as well…

note: will post pic of the finished job printed after job goes to press. using The Ligature to print…. expensive, but worth it. after all: a designer is only as good as their printer. SO TRUE!

big advertising agencies & the opportunities for the small, the lean & mean…

mull this thought over: a small branding /design firm with a few senior talents could quite possibly out perform a big, huge advertising agency at serving a healthy sized client.  b no overhead, no “silos” of different departments in-fighting for control of projects, etc.

small indy agencies will be the future of advertising… even for large billing clients.

is it the weak shot of Dr. Manhattan that kills this poster for me? dunno… my art director background makes me very particular w/ key-art & ads. weird though how the blues are similar to the B of A spot. that reversal film ‘look’ that was big in the mid-late 90′s commercials. crush the blacks & pump up the chroma! hope the film is like that; fitting for a graphic novel. director, Tarsem &  DP, Larry Fong were great at that back in ‘da day. come to think of it: Larry did shoot this AND 300…  all alum.

unfortunately this campaign never saw the light of day (comp. above). sadly, as the economy took a turn so did investor interest; really sad because with proper funding this brand is totally ‘turn key.’ having put in some time with it’s founder while she was @ Samuel Adams (Boston Beer Co.). we shared some successes moving suds & concepting new products. hope they come back for the ‘goods’ when the tide has changed. until then, i’m looking for a great beverage to market (heck, maybe i outta’ give Jim Koch a ring re: Sam Light?) btw: the planned webisodes & tv spots were amazing w/ some nice VFX stuff my friends @ Engine Room were gearing up to do… -snif-snif- – -

i will be profiling a sweet campaign i wrote for a former beer client, edison beer; unfortunately they could not produce and are currently having some setbacks… the work deserves to see the light of day even if just for personal record here (on my unknown newb-blog). edison: great product, but fail to recognize there first needs to be a desire (and knowledge of a product/name) before overfilling the warehouses… thus the marketing 101 terms: seed, launch… -cheers & bol

so, right now i’m simply going to post another labor of love: a short film for ALSA LA. just finished this documentary that was shown to thank donor’s and caregivers at an event last night at Skirball in bel air. here it is:
